The Tip of the Iceberg (Or Everything I’ve Figured Out So Far)

Sigmund Freud compared the conscious mind to the tip of an iceberg, with ten percent visible above the surface of the water and the other ninety percent—the subconscious and unconscious—submerged below. This metaphor resonates with both the act of making work and not yet knowing what it is about, and the sensation of not knowing yourself, genetically, historically speaking, I only know the beginning, the most recent history. What of the prior generations is lost to me now, hidden beneath the surface?
