06. Memento Mori

BKLYN

(Destroyed 2015)
Plaster gauze, papier mache, cardboard, foam core.

Working from memory, these buildings were based off of the architecture of residential Brooklyn neighborhoods. Produced while living outside the city, during a period of rapid gentrification, the buildings served as both a blank canvas for the hopes and demands of new city arrivals and the erasure of memories of residents who watched their homes and neighborhoods change with progress. Both empty and filled with content, the buildings only survived three years before being dismantled and reduced back to memory.
